Orpheus Institute welcomes visiting researcher Rodrigo Cádiz
31 januari 2024The Orpheus Institute welcomes Rodrigo Cádiz, a composer, engineer, researcher and innovator from Chile. During his stay at the institute, Rodrigo will spend his time to further understand and possibly replicate the Comdasuar, the first computer designed and implemented exclusively for musical creation in 1978 by Asuar, the first of its kind in the world.
Rodrigo Cádiz is a Chilean composer & engineer.
Besides being a full professor at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, with a joint appointment at the Music Institute and the Electrical Engineering Department of the university, he is also the lead investigator (since 2022) of an interdisciplinary and collaborative three-year research grant, funded by the Chilean government, entitled Animupa: Chilean Art Music: cultural practices as heritage (www.animupa.cl).
During his residency at Orpheus, Rodrigo aims to implement a digital simulation of some of the components of the circuit in LTspice, Multisim or another electronic circuit simulator as a first step towards replicating the Comdasuar.
This first step also has in mind the idea of extending the idea of historically informed performances, not only by recreating or analyzing the works of Asuar but also by rescuing and bringing to light again one of his most important contributions to the field: the actual device, designed entirely by himself, that he used to compose some of his most significant works.
