Orpheus Institute welcomes Rory Murphy as Visiting Researcher

Nieuws 27 september 2023

The Orpheus Institute eagerly extends its warmest welcome to Rory Murphy, an Irish composer developing a system for the generation and progression of harmony through geometric pitch mapping, seeking to understand the behaviour of pitches in this context (from the perspective of number theory) while exploring the creative potential in music.

Rory Murphy is an Irish composer working in a year-long Erasmus graduate traineeship. Continuing on from his Master's project last year, Rory is developing a system for the generation and progression of harmony through geometric pitch mapping, seeking to understand the behaviour of pitches in this context (from the perspective of number theory) while exploring the creative potential in music.

His compositional practice is often focused on experimental notation which explores three-dimensionality and multi-sensory input, so the visual nature of the geometric system is considered as a direct link between theory and notation.

During his four-month residency at Orpheus Institute he will continue his work as a part of the Music, Thought and Technology cluster, headed by Jonathan Impett.
