The final outcome of this week of work is a concert that will be recorded live for video at the Orpheus Instituut Concert Hall.
At 8pm on July 8, the participants of the HIPEX Summer Academy will present themselves with music by Scelsi, Sciarrino, and Kagel.
The first week of this summer sees the first incarnation of the HIPEX Summer Academy. HIPEX is an Orpheus Instituut research collective that scrutinizes performance practices of experimental music from the second half of the 20th century. Six selected musicians, specialising in contemporary music, will gather for a week-long immersion in a new type of masterclass based on artistic research principles and insights. Coached by expert faculty - dr. Marco Fusi (violin) and dr. Luk Vaes (experimental sound producers) - the group will investigate performance practices of solo violin pieces by Giacinto Scelsi and Salvatore Sciarrino, and set up (from scratch) a production of Mauricio Kagel's Acustica in the manner of a historically informed performance.
