Muziektheoreticus in residentie in het Orpheus Instituut

Prof. WILLIAM ROTHSTEIN 21-23 april 2010

 

In samenwerking met de Universiteit en het Conservatorium van Amsterdam enerzijds en het Orpheus Instituut anderzijds biedt de Vereniging voor Muziektheorie ook in het academiejaar 2009-2010 een muziektheoreticus van internationale allure een residentie aan. Na professor Robert Gjerdingen (Northwerstern University, Evanston, U.S.A.) en professor Kofi Agawu (Princeton University, New Jersey, U.S.A.) verwelkomden het Orpheus Instituut en de Universiteit Leuven professor William Rothstein (Queens College and The Graduate Center, City University of New York) van 22 tot en met 23 april 2010.

 

 

PROGRAMMA

 

De workshop op 21 april 2010 werd geannuleerd omwille van een wijziging in het vluchtschema van Prof. Rothstein dit ten gevolge van de vulkaanuitbarsting in Ijsland.

Workshop (3 sessies van 2,5u):

"Meter and Rhythm in the Music of Beethoven"

• 10.00-12.30 Sessie 1
  Historical and theoretical perspectives on phrase syntax, phrase rhythm, and hypermeter
• 14.00-16.30 Sessie 2
  Movements in rapid 3/4 meter (scherzi, including that of the "Archduke" Trio, op. 97; the first movements of the String Quartet op. 18, no. 1 and the Piano Sonata op. 28)

  Other movements from Beethoven's piano sonatas and string quartets

Presentatie binnen het ORCiM Seminar, "Sound and Score":

"Metric notation and metric perception: A fixed or variable relationship?"

 

De presentatie van Prof. William Rothstein op 22 april 2010 om 13.30 maakt deel uit van het "Sound and Score" seminarie van het Orpheus Research Centre in Music dat plaatsvindt in het Orpheus Instituut van donderdagnamiddag 22 april 2010 tot en met vrijdagnamiddag 23 april 2010. lees verder

Workshop (2 sessies van 2,5u):

"Meter and Hypermeter in the Music of Verdi and Tchaikovsky"

The focus of this workshop will be music that exhibits a high degree of periodicity: Verdi's operas from ca. 1850, especially Rigoletto and Il trovatore, and Tchaikovsky's ballet The Sleeping Beauty (1889).

Deelnemers brengen best zelf een partituur mee van de volledige Beethoven piano sonatas.
