CHAMBER MUSIC SEMINAR & WORKSHOP RECORDING TECHNIQUES

CHAMBER MUSIC SEMINAR

Young, professional ensembles that are ‘relatively new´ to the concert scene or that have little practical experience often need professional artistic feedback and hints on how to get organized. Orpheus Institute can provide that-and more. The chamber music seminar allows the ensemble and their musicians to prepare a programme or project of their choice.

The Chamber Music Seminar entitles participating ensembles to 9 sessions of 2 hours taking place at the Orpheus Institute. Dates are decided upon in consultation with both the professors and the Orpheus Institute.

The following acclaimed guest lecturers with international soloist and chamber music careers, provide artistic guidance:

  • Benjamin Dieltjens (clarinet)
  • Wieland Kuijken (viola da gamba)
  • Piet Kuijken (piano)
  • Tony Nys (viola)
  • France Springuel (cello)
  • Piet Van Bockstal (oboe)

Ensembles are also given the opportunity to organize a concert in Orpheus Institute´s completely refurbished concert hall. The entire organization is left up to the ensembles themselves: choosing an attractive concert program, preparing the concert brochure, promotion and practical organization, inviting the press and persons that might be helpful for your career, etc.

WORKSHOP RECORDING TECHNIQUES

Since October 2008 the Orpheus Institute organises a workshop Recording Techniques. This workshop allows young chamber music ensembles to make their own production or demo under the supervision of Benjamin Dieltjens. This workshop is also a good, practice-based introduction to studio- and live-techniques.

The workshop Recording Techniques consists of a theoretical (course) and practice-based part (workshop). The course gives a fundamental introduction into recording techniques and deals with topics such as basic accoustics, positioning of the musicians, material knowledge,.. After the theoretical introduction, the ensembles are given the opportunity to make a recording under the supervision of Benjamin Dieltjens. During the recording process special attention will be paid to balance, recording, montage and mastering.
