Research Focus 2007-2009: The Practices of Art

Orpheus Institute launched its research centre (ORCiM) in the spring of 2007. In the course of 2008, the core research team was joined by an international group of 11 outstanding musician-researchers with diverse backgrounds and expertise. They started the process of forming the research focus by exploring common topics, identifying possibilities, predicting possible outcomes and selecting the focus that held the most promising prospects.

The initial research agenda of ORCiM was oriented toward three interrelated research questions, rooted in the practical work and experiences of musical artists ('the practices of art'):

  1. Thoughts and concepts
  2. Embodied understandings
  3. Material interactions
