"Extended Piano Techniques in Theory, History and Performance Practice."

   

Luk Vaes (www.lukvaes.info) is the first musician to obtain a docARTES PhD; docARTES is the doctoral programme in musical arts running at the Orpheus Institute (together with its Flemish and Dutch partners) since 2004. Luk Vaes promoted to the degree of Doctor in the Arts on December 22nd 2009 at Leiden University, The Netherlands.

On June 23, 2001 Pieter Schuermans received the title "Laureate of the Orpheus Institute" for his presentation "Looking through Eardrums", a study on the interaction between music and movement.

On November 24, 2001, Karin De Fleyt received the title "Laureate of the Orpheus Institute" for her study "Fl² / extension possibilities of the contemporary flute repertoire".

3. Stefan VAN LANDEGHEM
On March 16, 2002, Stefan Van Landeghem received the title "Laureate of the Orpheus Institute" for his study on "Franz Liszt, the radical renewer of the Romantic music and the forerunner of 20th century music".

4. Geert CALLAERT
On April 27, 2002, Geert Callaert received the title 'Laureate of the Orpheus Institute' for his study on "Keyboard music in the twentieth century: a research on the origin and destination of an tendencies within contemporary keyboard musicby means of the piano solo and chamber music oeuvre for percussion and keyboard of Karlheinz Stockhausen, Charles Wuorinen and Iannis Xenakis".

On January 10, 2004, Tom Pauwels received the title 'Laureate of the Orpheus Institute' for his study on " 'De echo van 't saluut.' A research on the relation composer-guitar player and translation of this research towards practice."
