LOCATION & INFRASTRUCTURE

The Orpheus Institute is situated in the city of Ghent, a beautiful historic in Europe (Belgium) that in a unique way has managed to preserve traces of the Middle Ages while keeping up with the times.

The Orpheus Institute is located in in the very heart of the historic city centre, in a beautiful renovated 19th Century building. The facilities (with an appropriate look and a near-perfect venue) to which the institute moved in early 2000 seem to have been built to measure for Orpheus Institute.
The infrastructure provides comprehensive facilities for both research and musical practice and performance. Recording facilities, specialized IT, adequate practice facilities... and a beautiful renovated concert hall are available!

    Concert hall
The concert hall (behind the building) used to be a cinema (seating ±120 persons). Most lectures and seminars take place in this hall. Besides a grand piano (Steinway) and harpsichord (Colesse), audio and video equipment the hall also offers recording possiblities.

    Conference room
This conference room, for up to 60 persons is just perfect for small seminars, solo and chamber music concerts.

    Study rooms
Students are aible to play, study, and rehearse in three study rooms.

    Library
The Orpheus Institute keeps its own specialized and discipline-specific library which favours works in music-theoretical, aesthetic, performance-oriented and (artistic) philosophical areas. The library favours about 1500 books, scores and CD´s. This library is open to the general public by appointment.

    Recording studio
The recording studio allows students to commit their projects to tape, etc. The investment for that studio for electronic, computer-related, and multi-media music is scheduled to be spread over several years. Ultimately, it should allow our students to study and create the latest musical currents.
