Implementation phase
The implementation phase started in October 2008 and ended in September 2009.
During this phase, the joint doctoral curriculum in musical arts was tested and implemented at the Royal College of Music London and the Orpheus Institute Ghent, in collaboration with the awarding institutions K.U.Leuven and the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts of the Leiden University.
The other partners involved in the documa project (Royal Holloway University of London, University of Oxford, Royal Conservatoire The Hague and Conservatory of Amsterdam) provided teaching staff, supervisors, and specific expertise (for examinations, etc.).
During the Implementation Phase, intellectual, as well as residential exchange, and exchange of peer-review of research work in progress, involving both students and staff, was stimulated.
The implementation of a doctoral programme in music certainly provided empirical evidence to inform pedagogical theories concerning learning at 3rd cycle level.
Although the project has come to an end (October 2009), the doctoral curriculum will continue running at the Orpheus Institute as a programme called docARTES (www.docartes.be). The K.U.Leuven and the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts of the Leiden University remain the degree awarding institutions. DocARTES also welcomes students from the documa alliance partners, and still counts on teaching staff, specific expertise (supervision, examinations, etc.), and admission to libraries and other sources available at the documa alliance partner institutions.
